Silk Crepe Ruffle Coat (3.1 Phillip Lim, $1,950)

The first time that I saw this coat, I thought it was incredible.  The second time, I wondered how it would fit.  And the third time, I began to wonder if it would swallow me like a furry Halloween costume.

What do you ladies think?

  1. I think it would be drastically improved if it weren’t such a ho-hum color.

  2. Dr. Jean Grey says:

The only kind of person I can possible think would look good in this is someone very frail and petite. Like an Olson twin or something.

  3. Emma says:

Coats with a bit of volume are rarely bad.

  4. Katherine says:

    Horrible.

  5. R says:

maybe with a cute, sparkly belt?

  6. Jill says:

An Olson twin type with either really pale or dark skin could pull it off, I think. That color is hard to pull off for those of us with a skin tone that’s too similar.

  7. C says:

Maybe if you are very tall….with cute skinny jeans and super high heels – the belted comment sounds good too

  8. Christina says:

My first thought was actually “sad elephant.” Sorry.

  9. Rory says:

I am madly in love with this coat, and briefly considered becoming homeless for a month to afford it. Personally, I think it would overwhelm someone with a tiny frame, there’s too much fabric on it.

  10. AT says:

I think it’s super cute, with a chunky brown leather or sparkly belt. That being said, I can think of like 2 people who can afford this. I’m excited to see if someone could reproduce a more affordable option comparable to this.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Ask the Editor: Vol. IV, No. Eighteen

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
