Happy Hour: Welcome to Georgetown

Apr 5, 2013

When I spotted this cocktail on Honestly Yum, I knew it would eventually appear on CHS.  Why?  It’s called “The Georgetown.”

While I loathe the overwhelmingly congested sidewalks and pretension of that particular neighborhood, you can’t deny that Georgetown is as much a part of the D.C. mystique as Capitol Hill, the Beltway or the Potomac River.  And a cocktail made from rum, bitters and Maraschino liqueur certainly sounds like it would be right at home in the wood-paneled, smoky back rooms of the upper crust establishments that line the neighborhood’s cobblestone pathways.

Milly Illusion Yoke Fit & Flare Dress ($450)

Show me a dark brown cocktail served in a champagne coupe, and I’ll show you a little black dress.  This Milly frock (available in more sizes at Neiman’s) with a textured skirt and an illusion neckline is perfect for sipping a libation in a dimly lit hotel bar, Off the Record, perhaps?

If you like the look of an illusion neckline, then you’re in luck.  I have compiled a bevy of sheer-accented dresses in a host of price points.

Want a bit of sparkle with your sheer?  This BCBG dress accented with large pailettes is Stella McCartney-reminiscent at $398.  White House Black Market added rosettes to their festive party frock, which sells for $280.  And this sleek, one-shoulder Aidan Maddox has peek-a-boo sheer, and sells for $295.

If you prefer a dress price somewhere in Onederland, this pleated jersey sheath is a good place to start at $158.  This tiered mini-dress has lace and a bit of a flapper feel to it.  But my favorite is the unfortunately named, Gothic Prom Dress, with laser cut details, a deep back and a flare skirt.  (I mean, really, I die for this dress.)

Under-$100, I found this super simple dress with angular details at Target for $35.  This sleek lace option is $79.  And this pretty DKNY knock-off with a flare skirt and long sleeves is $60.

I found a few plus size dresses that I love including this 3/4 sleeve lace dress and this 30s-inspired dress with crystal embellishment on the shoulder.  And if you’re petite, I love this matte jersey dress with demure sleeves and a sheer back and this tiered dress with a sheer lace yoke.

I’m speaking at the GW Women in Business Conference tomorrow on the fashion panel.  It’s at 11:00AM, so hopefully I’ll see a few of you there.

Have a great weekend, and see you Monday!

xoxo, Belle

I love that Gothic Prom Dress! I wish it still came in the peach.

If anyone is interested in the Wallis flower-print top from Thursday, it has been restocked in all sizes.

I wore a gothic prom dress… it’s not something I’d like to revisit.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
