Holiday Gift Guide: A Gift Bag for the Traveler

Nov 17, 2015

Every year, I post a few gift guides for the holiday season.  This year, I wanted to do something a little different.

Instead of gift guides, the holiday posts will feature ‘gift bags’ — a bag, pouch, box, or other container filled with themed goodies.  Some bags will have a higher cost, while others will be more affordable.  Today’s gift bag is for the lady who loves to travel.

One. A lovely weekender.  The Madewell Transport Weekender ($298) in the set is both classic and casual.  For something unique, this Jet Set Overnight bag from Mark & Graham has cool navy stripe.  In the under-$100 category, Sole Society has a faux-leather duffle and this twill Everlane weekender.

Two. Travel-size Essentials. This Aeronaut Clear Quart bag ($22) is TSA-approved for carrying liquids and gels.  Adios, Ziploc.

For a fun gift, fill it with some luxe travel-size products.  I love the Alterna Caviar haircare set (keeps my dry hair soft while traveling).  Also, this Living Proof mousse, Drybar’s Triple-Sec dry shampoo/texturizer, and Josie Maran Argan Oil.

Three. A chic, oversize wrap. I always get cold on the airplane, and those communal blankets, no thanks.  So a wide wrap that I can cozy up in is a necessity.  The best come from White + Warren ($258), and are available in many colors.  For something less expensive, this $79 cape scarf in black with a charcoal accent is a great choice.

Four. A luxe sleep mask. A downtown hotel without blackout curtains can be a nightmare.  After too many sleepless nights, I started packing a sleep mask.  This one from Illuminage ($32) is super soft and infused with copper to soothe the skin and minimize fine lines.  For something less expensive, try this cheeky embroidered mask from MSsilk.

Five. A selection of travel accessories.  Henri Bendel offers a line of chic, mid-price travel accessories that come in a variety of gorgeous colors.  You can also have them monogrammed.  In addition to the passport cover and luggage tag, I chose their perfectly sized jewelry case.

I travel long distances a lot, and I think these are great suggestions! I would add these two key, simple beauty products for warding off dryness on planes: Nivea Creme Travel Sized Tin ($1, Drugstore.com) and Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips ($14, Birchbox). These are the only products I’ve tried that keep my hands and lips feeling soft at the end of transatlantic flights without needing to be applied multiple times!

Belle, I really love this presentation! Thank you!

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.
