#11 – “it was like removing the pin from a grenade of secondhand embarrassment” – YES. The headline for me would be: “I had to unfollow so I could stop myself from hating you.”

OMG the pure happiness of that puppy …. 🙂 !!!

I started taking my makeup off with a cheap Target washcloth and Clinique Cleansing Balm (or cold cream) nightly instead of using wipes. It’s cheaper and my face is much cleaner!

Re: #1 – Such sound advice that so many ladies need. It is so easy to get swept up in the delight for your friend that you make a commitment that really doesn’t work for you. Remember: You do NOT have to shriek, “OMGYES!” if someone asks you to be in their bridal party. Asking questions about expectations and for time to decide does not make you unreasonable. As someone who has been on both sides of this, it sucks.

As a bride, do what you can to research high-level costs so you can help your friends reach a decision easier, though that doesn’t always mean people will think it through before they say yes. When I asked my friends to be bridesmaids, I was armed with a dress price range, hotel pricing and what I was able to cover for them, etc. Pre-wedding stuff was not destination/did not require a hotel. Even with all that, I still had one person realize halfway between when I asked and the wedding that she just couldn’t afford it…after she bought a non-refundable dress.

As a bridesmaid, I had to back out of a wedding. When I accepted, I accepted with caveats – “I’m thrilled for you and delighted you’d have me,” I told my friend, “but my budget for this is fixed at $X.” She excitedly shared that she had, “done research and it would definitely be less than that.” Costs simply to attend the wedding alone as a bridesmaid quickly surged to more than double my budget (before a wedding gift, showers, bachelorette, etc). I was trying to find a way to make it work anyway, stressing myself out…then the MOH started harassing me about not being able to do the bachelorette. I opened my eyes, bowed out as gracefully as possible. Beware, though – having to back out can be a friendship-ending move. In my scenario, thankfully, it wasn’t.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
