Three Looks for Less

Aug 15, 2017

Who doesn’t love to find a copycat style that costs less than its designer cousin?  Finding the must have look for less is a fashion thrill.

Asymmetric Skirt.  Bold red pieces are going to be huge this fall season.  These asymmetric skirts bring a modern vibe to an otherwise basic midi-skirt.  The J.W. Anderson Skirt ($405) with its sleek lines and Katherine Hepburn appeal is what dreams are made of.  However, this Topshop Asymmetric Skirt ($55) is a serviceable alternative.

I would wear such a statement-making skirt with a Victorian collar blouse (also the rage this fall).  I love this See by Chloe lace blouse.  Another option would be a simple tie-neck like this Banana Republic top.

Bow-Shoulder Sweater.  I adore this bow-shoulder Ermanno Scervino sweater ($880), but the price, whoa.  When I spotted it, I knew I needed to add a bow-shoulder sweater to my fall looks.  I saw this Banana Republic sweater ($88) with its relaxed fit and feminine style and knew it was the one.

Love bow sweaters?  This Ted Baker is also worth a look if you’re into prim and proper.

Top Handle Satchel. The Cuyana brand’s motto is “fewer, better.”  In other words, buy fewer things of better quality.  And this Top Handle Bag ($375) certainly makes that ethos look good.  On the more affordable side of the coin, this Mango Pocket Crossbody ($59) is a chic alternative.  The details on the hardware are really a nice addition.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

Three Outfits I’ll Wear All Spring

When I started this blog, influencers still re-wore clothes. There were no haul videos filled with the latest from Shein before it winds up in a beach in Ghana poisoning the planet. There were no sponsored campaigns delivering fresh wardrobes each month. The content machine doesn’t like reruns.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
