Quote of the Week.

“Pitting your dream against someone else’s is a fantastic way to get discouraged and depressed.” — Jon Acuff.

The Top Story.

How One Woman’s Digital Life Was Weaponized Against Her. (Wired)

This article will startle and horrify you.  Imagine your family, your employer, your friends, the people in your child’s life, all of them receiving harassing e-mails from a man you had a brief relationship with online.  What if he called police on your husband, reported you to child protective services, and threatened your safety?  And what if, thanks to the anonymity of the Internet, no one seemed willing to help you?

The Weekly Reads and Links.

1) This burgundy satchel from Target is so me it hurts. This card case is also a great stocking stuffer, so many colors.  I use mine instead of a wallet.

2) Have any of you ladies tried Bumble Bizz for networking?  How do you like it?

3) This reversible sequin stocking is perfect for the holidays.

4) How fashion editors resell their swag for big bucks. (Racked)

5) 20% off tops and sweaters at Anthropologie. This textured Dottie top and this ruffle draped pullover are perfect for casual work days.

6) A guide to negotiating salary and juggling job offers. (Simple Dollar)

7) This $35 gold clutch and $19 black tassel clutch from DSW are both perfect for the holidays.

8) Could the simple act of squatting undo the damage to the body by sitting? (Quartz)

9) Did you just say Barefoot Dreams makes a SWEATER?!?!? Too cozy for words.

10) How to get the scoop on a company’s culture before you take the job. (Levo)

11) This Free People sweater is glam and cool, and $40.  Wear it with these velvet jeans to be perfectly on trend for casual holiday gatherings.

12) We’re failing our female veterans; we must do better. (Fortune)

The Weekly Ws.

What I’m Reading. The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. My Mom wouldn’t stop raving about it for a year.

What I’m Buying. This $9 container that keeps leftover avocado from browning.

Where I’m Going. If you happen to be in Seattle, you need to hit up Recoop Spa.  So cute and affordable.  I got a great manicure for $24.

The Photo of the Week.

What’s Gaby Cooking made this gorgeous crudite platter for Cupcakes and Cashmere.  It’s so colorful and pretty and feels so healthy.  I have this Target serving tray and marble serving bowls already, so I’m going to throw one of these together for holiday parties.

The Target links aren’t working correctly.

  3. Love The Nightingale. What do you think? I’ve read several of Kristen Hannah’s books, and have really enjoyed them all.

  4. Orla says:

I picked up the Target card case last night at Target. Usually when I go out to bars or clubs I wear a Ted Baker crossbody bag that although gorgeous, is not large enough to fit a wallet so I usually just stash cash and card in an inside pocket of the bag. This weekend a $50 note went missing after a night on the tiles so thought the card case would prevent it from happening again! Plus it is very cute and looks high quality.

  5. AMY says:

The Nightingale is an AMAZING story. I loved it and have been telling everyone to read it too! Enjoy!

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Ask the Editor: Vol. IV, No. Eighteen

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
