From Paris Fashion Week to Your Office

Jan 10, 2018

I bookmarked this street style image from Paris Fashion Week months ago.  The sleekness, the modern styling, the elegance of it just spoke to me.  So I thought I would try to recreate it for the office.

Coat Hester Boxy Coat ($695) // Sweater Cuyana Turtleneck Sweater ($155) // Skirt M&S Foulard Print Skirt ($9) // Pin BR Sapphire Brooch ($38) // Bag Daily Edited Box Bag ($280) // Shoes Nine West Shamrock Heel ($70)

Coat. The navy coat she’s wearing is a boxier style with shorter sleeves.  This Alice + Olivia Hester coat was the closest I could find.  It’s not really my style, but the oversize, boxy jackets are popular right now.

I prefer something more like this 2 Pocket Wool Coat; it’s a little oversized, while staying traditional.  This Ralph Lauren coat has a batwing style for something cool.  Plus?  This Jones NY coat has interesting details.

Sweater and Skirt.  The sweater’s self explanatory — navy turtleneck, done.  If you need one under-$75, try this one from LL Bean.

As for the skirt, well the skirt is less than straight forward.  I combed the Interwebs for hours, and all I could come up with was this Foulard skirt.  Amazingly it costs under-$10.  Sadly, printed pencil skirts are in short supply. I did, however, find this texture print Boden pencil skirt.  This frayed floral pencil skirt also has a cool, modern feel.

If I were trying to recreate this outfit for myself though, I’d lose the print.  The skirt in the photo is a deep teal.  This ASOS high-waisted pencil ($16, size up) would be the way to go.

Accessories.  The shoes are the real stars of the show.  I love the twisted bow on the front.  However, if you want traditional, these patent pumps from Mix are a good choice.  I also like the idea of this Sam Edelman ankle boot.

Box bags are about to hit in a big way.  This trend has been brewing since last spring when Mark Cross popped up on everyone’s radar, but it’s about to explode.  The Daily Edited has great options.

Lastly, I picked this pin because the coat needed something.  If you prefer the large bow she used, Etsy has a number of options.  I gravitated toward this hair ribbon, which I would just safety pin on.  See, multi-tasking!

Makeup and Hair.  It’s time to break out that flat iron ladies.  It might also be time for a sleek bob, but I digress.  And if you want that too-shiny-for-words gloss to your hair, you need this Sachajuan serum.

As for the makeup, the most important aspect is the cheek color.  You want something in between pink and plum.  I recommend Bobbi Brown blush in sand pink.

I love this! Such a great idea, thank you.

You’ve posted this outfit and the one with the camel coat the other day that I think both make turtlenecks look so chic! But (and this could be operator error), every time I wear a turtleneck, I feel like they make my face look too round… any tips?

  3. Meg says:

You just made me reconsider my aversion to turtlenecks. Love this post!

Great post! Love this outfit too.

Thank you for reminding me of the Mark Cross overnight bag that Grace Kelly carries with such style in Rear Window. They still sell it and for not much more than the current Box bag-love it when something old cool becomes new cool!

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.
