Pieced Together: A Monday Meeting Look

May 7, 2018

For years, I’ve been building my outfit posts (Two Ways, etc.) in Polyvore.  A few weeks back, that platform was taken offline.  I’m re-learning Photoshop, but it’s a slow process.  The Pieced Together posts are a temporary solution to this issue.

This outfit is perfect for those big Monday meetings when your expected to be at your best, but your head is still getting back into the game.  It’s simple, neutral and professional.  It’s also built out of versatile pieces that you can mix-and-match with your wardrobe staples.

J.Crew Going Out Blazer ($148, petite/tall)

If you’re dressing for a professional office in the summer, you need a navy blazer.  The clean lines and sleek cut of this jacket are perfect.  Plus-size? Try this Talbot’s blazer.

H&M Creped Top ($39)

I like the shape of this blue-grey blouse.  The slight peplum and the flutter sleeve are feminine, but the effect is still professional.  The blouse also comes in ivory.

Edie Full Length Trouser ($90, petite/tall)

In defiance of social convention, I wear white pants all year-round, so these seasonless stretch pants are perfect for me.  They have a straight, but not skinny fit and simple look.

LK Bennett Floret Pump ($236)

These sleek pumps are the perfect balance for this outfit.  Black would be too harsh, a pale grey would just get lost.  These mid-charcoal pumps pair well with the blouse and bring just the right contrast.  Looking for an inexpensive pair?  Try this pair of Trotters.

Nadri Bezel Pendant ($35)

If you’re looking for a simple pendant, you can’t go wrong with a crisp bezel set solitaire.  If you don’t like yellow gold, this Nadri also comes in silver.  Looking for a real diamond?  This simple Pompeii pendant from Bluefly comes in several sizes, with the 1/4 and 1/3 carat sizes priced under-$250.

I love, love, love that blazer. I’m on a spending hold right now so I’m putting it in my “to buy” list (which just keeps getting longer and longer thanks to this blog 🙂 ). Thanks for sharing!

I have no actual training in graphic design but I’ve found myself needing to do quite a bit of it for some volunteer work. I use Canva really heavily – it’s a lot more user friendly than Photoshop! I think it would probably be more than enough for this kind of graphics. Good luck!

Second the Canva recommendation – it’s incredibly easy to use and looks great

  4. Rachel says:

For plus size ladies with a little less money in their pockets, Sejour Riley has a cute navy blazer at Nordstrom that looks similar but is at a lower price point too! 🙂

  5. Orla says:

Concur on the Canva recommendation: very user friendly, free and good quality outputs.

Oh my god I miss Polyvore so much! I was devastated when it disappeared, I had my entire wardrobe saved and I used it to outfit plan every week. So much easier than trying on a million things and a great way to remember my favorite outfits.

I hate hate hate the way they just took it down with no warning. They couldn’t have found someone to buy it and keep it running? Or try a subscription model? I wouldn’t pay one red cent to access Facebook but I would have thrown $5-10 a month to Polyvore to keep playing with my digital paper dolls.

  7. SM says:

It seems like the tempo of blog postings has been different lately. What’s going on?

  8. LP says:

FYI I was able to log in to my Polyvore account today and request to download my saved content. It did not save any of my likes/favorites from other people, unfortunately, but it did give me the JPGs of all the sets I created and saved, as well as my draft sets. It looks like the deadline to request a download is today, and then you have to download the content by the 15th (mine took like 2 minutes from request to when it was available for download).

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

Ask the Editor: Vol. IV, No. Eighteen

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
