Saw It On Social: Focallure Eyebrow Pencil

Jun 5, 2018

There’s a fear when you buy a product advertised on social media that it’s going to be awful.  I’ve tried several products that I’ve found on Facebook and Instagram, and I’ve been mostly happy with my purchases.  But when it came to the Focallure Eyebrow Pencil, well, just read the review.

I must have seen the video advertising the Focallure Eyebrow Pencil one-hundred times before I decided to spend $28 on the product.  The pencil claims to mimic the effects of microblading by creating feather-like, hair-width strokes.  As someone who just spent two-years slowly growing her eyebrows back in, I was excited to try it.

The tip of the pencil is serrated to allow you to draw three thin lines with each stroke of the pen.  Allegedly.   When you use the pencil to draw on your hand, you do get three thin, parallel lines.  But when you try to use it on your eyebrow, you get a totally different look, which is tough to describe.

First off, pencil is not the word I would use to describe the product.  It’s more like a marker, and instead of pigment, it uses a very viscous ink.  That ink just spills forth from the pen onto your skin, and you end up looking like you drew your eyebrows on with a Sharpie.

Secondly, the color is like nothing found on Earth.  The chestnut color is like a Crayola crayon, and the darker brown color is like freshly brewed coffee.  No one’s hair is this color.

Third, when you’re filling in your eyebrows, you need that color to last.  Especially if you’re using the product in the hot summer months, you don’t want sweat from your brow causing your eyebrow makeup to drip into your eyes.  But this product is so poorly manufactured that even a drop of liquid causes it to move so you can look like a stigmata.

Bottom line, do not buy this.  Tell your friends not to buy it.  If the Focallure ad pops up in your feed, snooze it.  The product is utter and complete garbage.  Just laughably bad.

Need an eyebrow-filler that is actually awesome?  This $9 NYX micro-brow pencil is great, and the Glossier Boy Brow ($15) is excellent too.

As always with Saw It On Social, I purchased this product with my own money.  Looking back, I wish I hadn’t.  This is one I can’t even give away in good conscience.  But I never solicit items for review or accept items for review, so sometimes I get stuck.

Oh jeez, how does a product like this even get advertising! I’m so sorry you had to use this, thanks for taking one for the team!

Come on…no photos?! Ha! Thanks for the honest review, Abra. We appreciate it! Eyebrow regrowth solidarity.

I have taken to using an eyeshadow shade that works as an eyebrow product, however recently I didn’t check a bag while travelling and didn’t want to bring a big clunky palette with me so ended up purchasing Benefit Goof Proof at the airport – converted! Highly recommend!

I also really like NYX’s eyebrow cake powder – largely because it comes in a red shade. I have really pale eyebrows that don’t need to be filled in so much as darkened so people know they are there, and the light red in the auburn pack almost perfect matches my hair when I use it.

    Glossier Boy Brow is amazing!

I highly recommend the Clarins Pro-Palette Eyebrow Kit – it’s three different shades of brown so you can customize to your coloring and also go darker or lighter, depending on how dramatic you want your brows. The gel gets a little goopy in the palette after a while, but it holds brows perfectly in place all day and that outweighs any mess in the palette. https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/clarins-pro-palette-eyebrow-kit/3058470?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FBrands%2FClarins%2FAll%20Clarins&color=none

@Belle – Well, of course! I just meant how do they get said cash with such a crap product! It’s the same feeling I have when I get a counterfeit product…how was this worth it to them?! The lengths people go to for a quick buck. 🙂

  8. Jill says:

Thank you so much for this. I keep seeing the ads, too. For that money, I could get a department store product I tried first.

  9. sbe says:

Ugh, that sounds horrible. Thanks for sharing for the rest of us, though I’m sorry you wasted your money on it!

  10. Erin says:

@Emilie Fellow redhead! Cosign on the NYX powder in auburn! I think most people don’t realize that redheads’ eyebrow are often blond or very light brown. I look like an alien without my brow powder:)

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
