“I used to think the credit card didn’t count…You can’t put yourself in a position where, if the sh*t hit the fan, you couldn’t pay all of your bills at one time. If the world came to an end, I would be able to pay for everything. I might not be left with much, but I can afford what I have.” — Bethenny Frankel

Penny Pinched. Advice on “old school” strategies to save money when high-tech apps weren’t the right fit for you.

Planetary Objective. Run, do not walk, to buy this pretty $25 star-spangled blouse from Nordstrom.

Penciled In. Make next week super productive with new calendar management tools.

Pretty Good Deal. 20%-off, plus free shipping on dresses at Anthro.  Grabbed this Maeve dress in raspberry, wish I’d also gotten the green.  I also love this caftan for the beach or the pool.

Pep It Up. How to deliver a pep talk that is actually motivating when your friend really needs it.

Penned. Do any other former Hill staff love writing with the Paper-Mate “signing pens”?

Pinocchio-ed. Goop, Trump, and the Very Lucrative Assault on the Truth.

Perfectly Printed. This black-and-white cardigan is my a great “my office is freezing” wrap up.  This striped wrap top from Express is a great summer to fall option (and it’s $39).

Pre-Prepped. Why the meal-kit business (Blue Apron, Plated, etc.) is totally unsustainable.  Why, you don’t say?

This fall, I am going to be all about wild shoes.  These Matiko slingbacks with the wood-ball heel are so weird, they’re a must have (also in yellow).    I’ve also been eyeing these Jeffrey Campbell bow mules, because my other pair of JC’s are the most comfy pair of shoes I own.  And these Boden leopard loafers were already on my must-have list.  I’m going all in, because life is too short to wear boring shoes.

I just bought that Anthro dress yesterday in the green! Can’t wait for it to arrive.

  2. Kate says:

YES TO SIGNING PENS! They are heaven. I’ve moved on from the Hill, but am still devoted to those pens.

  3. sc says:

That blouse is super-cute, but I can’t abide polyester tops anymore. They don’t breathe at all in the heat and don’t get me started on their odor-retention. Guh. People are so afraid of rayon but IME it’s not nearly as wrinkly or fragile as people think. Rayon fabric is inexpensive; I don’t know why clothing manufacturers aren’t using it more!

  4. Monica says:

Women in my paper-planner facebook community LOVE the papermate flairs and I never put together that they are signing pens until just now!

  5. Jules says:

Same with polyester. Does anyone know how to get the smell out? I’ve tried vodka and white vinegar but yeeeesh the smell is absurd

  6. TraciE says:

Haha not a hill staffer here, but I’ve been a teacher for about a decade and EVERY teacher I know LOVES those Papermates!

  7. Cee Cee from KY says:

Ha! We are devoted to those pens in my department (Legal, for a steel company). I redline every document with those, and I even purchased my own set at home for personal correspondence. Love it.

  8. sarah says:

I’m on my last pen that made it’s way (shhh) off the hill with me. I’ll have to buy some when it’s done!

  9. Morgan says:

I used to be a Papermate Flair devotee (color coded notes in college, anyone?), but about three years ago I switched to the Sharpie pens and I LOVE them.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
