The Find: A Chic Top for Work

Classic shapes, neutral colors, pieces you will wear professionally and casually — these are the foundation of a good wardrobe.  So when you find a piece that checks all of the boxes, buy it.  At this price, you might buy two.

This Leith Button Detail Wrap Top ($69) is incredibly flattering.  It slims the waist, conceals a less-than-toned tummy, and flatters the bust.  It’s perfect under a blazer or solo.

Just one tip: if you’re between sizes, go up.  With a structured wrap, always size up when in doubts.  Too tight will flatter no one in this style.

Plus-size?  This comes in your range as well.  New to Leith?  It’s an in-house Nordstrom brand that takes a relaxed approach to work attire.  I also love this dotted midi skirt for spring, whenever that decides to arrive in Montana.  So…June.

Abra, do you think this top is on the more opaque side? Product details say the fabric is crepe, which makes me nervous. (I can’t see bra straps/outline on the model, but that doesn’t mean much!)

Some of that is the camera flash. I would classify it as slightly sheer.

The plus sized version of the Leith skirt (which you need to search for separately from the link) is 40% off!

If anyone has found an actual opaque white blouse recently, I would love to know – it’s such a key basic, but every white top I’ve tried for years, with the exception of a ponte top that’s too casual for formal business wear, has been sheer and required a camisole. And I realize that look (w/ camisole) has become more accepted, but I just… don’t want to wear that to a formal, buttoned-up kind of meeting.

I purchased it last week in white and green. These blouses are thick and well structured. It’s easily become #1 in my wardrobe. I’m tempted to get it in a few more colors… it really is gorgeous.

I think opacity also depends on the wearer to some extent (I’m Indian so things feel less opaque on me than on Caucasian models sometimes). I’ve had great success with Boden, Marks and Spencer, and Uniqlo for white shirts that aren’t too thin or transparent. If you live near an outlet, check out the women’s section of Van Heusen. The shirts are inexpensive but decent quality!
