BPGP: Tresemme Dry Shampoo

I’m a long time fan of dry shampoo. After a long night of work or play, a quick application of dry shampoo can save you from a lengthy wash and blow dry. This ensures a decent hair day and at least an extra half hour of sleep. Win.
My hands down favorite brand is Pssst Dry Shampoo. But when I heard that Tresemme had come out with a line of dry shampoos for different hair types, I was intrigued enough to make a run to the local Wal-Mart to pick up a can.
After trying several brands, I’ve discovered that dry shampoos fall into two categories: powdery and sticky. Tresemme falls into the latter category.
Post-application your hair feels like you over utilized the hairspray that morning. Not itchy or uncomfortable, just a bit heavier than normal and tacky to the touch.
Unlike most dry shampoos though, Tresemme has a pleasant smell. It also gives nice shine if you opt for that product incarnation. This is a bit better than the Pssst brand which can make the hair look a bit dull.
While the Tresemme (Walgreens, $3.50) product has not seduced me away from Pssst, it’s a solid performer. So if you can’t find Pssst in your local drugstore give the Tresemme product a try.
I've yet to try Pssst, but I've experimented with nearly all of the higher-end dry shampoos stocked at Sephora and Tresemme, and I've learned a couple things:
– In terms of getting the most for your money, if it comes in a powder and a spray, buy the powder! The sprays last about a month, and the powder will last 12 months or more. Some people prefer sprays, but don't spend $15-25 for one (but that price is more than worth it for powder).
– If the smell has even the slightest potential to be irritating, don't buy it. Oscar Blandi smells like fresh lemons at first, but to me it was more like Mr. Clean after a few uses (not in a good way) and I stopped using Ojon because I couldn't shake the slightly clinical, hospital smell. This is definitely a personal thing, but something that smells a little off to you in the store is going to be nauseating when it is lingering over you all day.
Tresemme smells more like a normal hair product, but I couldn't stand the stickiness – instead of making my roots less oily, it made the rest of my hair feel like I oversprayed the hairspray and then slept for a week. Gross. I also have thin hair, and I have a feeling this would have dried it out in no time.
I am a huge cheapskate, and after all these experiments, it has been totally worth it to spend the $23 on Fekkai Au Naturel dry shampoo. It's my favorite by far (barely any smell, and actually brushes out!), it's lasted me over a year and I have 1/3 of the bottle left. It's kind of embarrassing to say I'm a dry shampoo aficionado, but I am, and I'm not buying anything else (until I can try out Pssst for $3!).
Pssst is amazing! I have been meaning to try it out since you mentioned it here. I was in NYC for the weekend at the beginning of the month and had little time between walking around all day, seeing a show, and 8pm dinner reservations. Pssst came to my rescue (I found it at a Duane Reade). Since then I have used it weekly to extend my blow dry to about 5 days! Now, I have really thick hair that can normally go 3/4 days without a wash/dry, even with workouts (not crazy sweating but some). But Pssst really makes the difference on the extra days. In fact, I used it this morning and got a compliment on my hair when I got to work! If you haven't tried it… do it now!
I have yet to try Pssst or Tresemme, but I have tried several other dry shampoos. My favorite is Ojon. Although it is a bit pricey, I like the smell. I generally get more compliments on my hair several days without washing because Ojon gives my hair volume and control. Thanks for the comments and posts! I love to try new products – especially when I know that other people have had success.
I'm curious what the advantage of Psst is over ordinary baby powder? That's what I use.
The Tresemme foam is a million times better than the dry shampoo. I think it's meant for curly hair, but mine is wavy and it works wonders after a gym trip.
I have such opinions on this new TreSemme dry shampoo. I ADORE Psssstt and use it regularly, but I thought I'd try the new TreSemme stuff. DO NOT BUY IT. The texture is horrible (as you mentioned) and, it leaves a residue on your hands after you shake it out that leaves marks on your clothes. I will be returning to what works – Pssstt through and through!
