The Weekly Edit: Everything Is Everything

Apr 24, 2018

Do you ever have a lost week?  A week when you had big plans — cleaning, work, fun — and none of it happens.  That was last week for me.  Kyle was out of town for part of the week, and I thought I’d be so productive.  But after being sick, and traveling, I just needed a rest.

The good news is that the weather is warming, spring is coming.  So let’s start getting ready.

I’ve been a huge fan of Lauryn Hill since the Sister Act 2 days.  I still listen to her Miseducation and Unplugged 2.0 albums weekly.  So I was thrilled to hear that she’s planning a 20th Anniversary tour.

Check out these two pieces on Hill: How a racist smear campaign derailed Hill’s career, and how Miseducation influences acts from Kanye to Cardi B.

My summer uniform is an easy, pretty dress and flat sandals, but I’m thinking about switching up my shoe choice.  Mid-height stacked or block heels are chic enough for special occasions, and comfortable enough for every day.  Here are my picks.

These Strappy Suede Heels from & Other Stories are so cool and summery.  I also like these rose-gold leather sandals from Dune (also in tan).   For something easy and casual, try these TOMS sandals.  And the best part?  All these chic sandals are under-$100.

Once the weather warms, I crave healthier food.  And donuts.  Always, donuts.  But I digress.  This Spring Goddess Sandwich looks right up my alley.

I’ll probably make a couple of changes.  First, I’ll lose the bagel in favor of bread with Trader Joe’s Everything-But-The-Bagel seasoning.  Second, I’ll pulse the chickpea salad in my food processor so the chickpeas don’t fall out of the sandwich.  And third, I’ll add roasted, sliced beets.  They add a “meaty” quality to vegetable sandwiches.

I found this Cicapair Color Correcting Treatment after writing about La Roche Posay Cicaplast, which has a similar active ingredient.  What I like about this cream, is that after you apply it, it minimizes the redness of acne or rosacea.  It also has a “color changing capsule” that transforms the cream into a flesh-tone.  So it’s like applying a small amount of foundation to even out your skin tone.  I use it on days when I don’t intend to wear makeup, and under makeup on bad breakout days.

If you love long-form newspaper and magazine articles, you need to subscribe to The Sunday Long Read.  The newsletter pulls together the best long-form pieces from outlets big and small.  With interesting guest editors and an ever-changing list of fabulous articles, it can help you fill a lazy Sunday or entertain you on a long Monday morning commute.

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
